More than 45 volunteers convened to make the Denali Teen Health Fair a huge success Oct. 25. Teen from throughout the borough attended the Saturday event, which included self-defense training, dining etiquette, Wii competitions in bowling, boxing, tennis, "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band."
Alaska State Trooper Ryan Nichols conducted an ATV/Snowmachine safety class and Clear Sky Sportsmen's Club members introduced hunter safety and collected names of students who want to try skeet shooting next spring.
Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, Railbelt Mental Health, and Interior Community Health Clinic all participated in the day, promoting healthy choices for young people. ICHC's newest dentist, Dr. Kilgore, was on hand to meet residents and pass out toothbrushes.
Organizer Ellen Lueders organized the event, which was sponsored by Kids In Motion, with help from a Denali Borough matching grant.
